Who We Are
About Gateway Domestic Violence Center
In the early 1980s, a group of concerned community leaders recognized the devastating impact domestic violence was having across the nation—and chose to take action in their own community. In October 1982, Gateway House was founded in Gainesville, Georgia. Now known as Gateway Domestic Violence Center, we have spent over 42 years providing life-saving support, shelter, and hope to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.
Our Beliefs
Our work is rooted in the belief that:
-
Every person has the right to live free from physical, emotional, and psychological abuse.
-
Abuse is a crime, and survivors deserve protection and justice.
-
All survivors have the right to make their own decisions about their relationships, their futures, and their healing.
-
Legal representation and support should never be out of reach because of financial barriers.
-
Each individual has dignity, worth, and the ability to rebuild their life.
