The Compass Center needs reliable volunteers to help sort and organize donations. As a Donation Sorting Volunteer, you will assist in ensuring that donated items are properly categorized and distributed to those in need.

NAMI Ending the Silence is an engaging presentation that helps audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health condition.

NAMI Ending the Silence presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma.

NAMI Hall County is looking for volunteers to help out with our 2026 NAMIWalks fundraiser being held at Rock Creek Veterans Park, 223 Northside Dr, Gainesville, GA 30501. Please view this form for a list of available positions. We have various volunteer positions and the time commitment varies from half an hour to two hours. Thank you for furthering NAMI's mission to destigmatize, educate, and provided much needed resources for those with mental health conditions.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery.

Taught by trained leaders with lived experience, this program includes activities, discussions and informative videos. However, as with all NAMI programs, it does not include recommendations for treatment approaches.

What is NAMI Family-to-Family?

A free 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced-based program. NAMI-trained family members who have been there lead the course with presentations, discussion and interactive exercises. The group setting allows you to connect with others and build a community of support.

Who can teach Family-to-Family classes?

Family members and loved ones of individuals with mental health conditions. As someone who supports someone with a mental health condition, you are an expert in what its like! The training will provide you with the skills and resources to teach this class in your community.

NAMI Family Peer Support Groups follow a peer-based, mutual support group
model that provides an opportunity for loved ones of persons living with mental illness to share and learn from their common experience. Groups are a safe space to confront the challenges that all loved ones of persons living with mental illness face, regardless of diagnosis. Facilitators offer support, information, and practical knowledge to loved ones of someone living with mental illness. Facilitators are not counselors or teachers; rather, they are present primarily to give the group structure by opening and closing each support group session, guiding discussion, and shifting discussion when necessary.

This training prepares participants to become certified NAMI Connection Support Group Leaders. NAMI Connection is a free, peer-led support group for adults who have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Leaders must have lived experience with a mental health condition and will learn how to create a safe, welcoming space where participants can share experiences, gain insight, and support one another in recovery.

Requirements of a NAMI Connection Support Group Facilitator:

Must be an individual with a mental health diagnosis who identifies themselves in recovery

Willingness to undergo 2-day NAMI Connection Support Group model training

Maintaining fidelity of the NAMI Connection Support Group model is required

Commitment to facilitate support groups for a minimum of one year

Ability to provide group participant data as required with the support of NAMI Affiliate

Willingness to identify potential new facilitators from their support groups

You can make a meaningful difference on your schedule by driving cancer patients who lack reliable transportation.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver, you provide safe transportation so patients can keep their treatment schedules and focus on healing. Rides are typically Monday–Friday during the day.

Volunteers are encouraged to drive the patient to and from the appointment, but rides are listed as one-way segments. When you drive both legs, the time during the appointment is yours (run errands, grab coffee, read, or wait in a main lobby).

One of the ways we support the children in our care is by making sure they feel celebrated and loved—especially on birthdays, holidays, and other special milestones. We collect new toys to be used as gifts for these occasions, as well as for achievement rewards and moments when a little extra joy is needed.

What makes this especially meaningful is how we involve the mothers. Rather than giving gifts directly from Gateway, we allow moms to “shop” from our donated toy supply at no cost. This empowers them to choose something special for their child and give it as a personal gift—preserving the joy of giving and strengthening their connection during a difficult time.

Whether big or small, every new toy donation helps a mother feel proud and a child feel seen, loved, and valued.

When families and individuals arrive at Gateway, many do so with little notice—often bringing only the clothes on their backs. In those first few days of transition and healing, something as simple as clean laundry can make a world of difference.

To help meet this need, we provide on-site laundry services so clients don’t have to worry about finding or paying for a laundromat. With 8 commercial-grade washers and 12 dryers we’re able to offer clean bedding, towels, and clothing—all of which help restore comfort, dignity, and a sense of control during a time of upheaval.

We rely on laundry detergent pods for both client use and staff laundry operations. Pods are easier for clients to use, especially during stressful moments, and they help us avoid the maintenance issues caused by liquid detergents—ensuring our machines stay up and running for everyone who needs them.

Your donation of detergent pods directly supports survivors and their families by helping us create a clean, respectful, and functional environment.

When individuals and their children arrive at our shelter, they are leaving behind their homes and entering an unfamiliar place in search of safety. At Gateway, we work hard to ensure that what they walk into is more than just a room it’s a clean, comfortable, and welcoming space where healing can begin.

A big part of creating that environment is maintaining a high standard of cleanliness. Each room is thoroughly cleaned and prepared before a new resident arrives, and that means we go through a large amount of cleaning supplies throughout the year.

At this time, we are especially in need of general cleaning products (excluding Clorox-brand items). The most helpful donations include:

Our resale boutique is vital as a source of income for our shelter, clothing for our residents, and resources in our community. Greet & interact with customers. Sort, hang and tag donated clothing and household items. Assist with cleaning and organizing. Build friendships and impact lives as you volunteer 

Help is needed to clean common areas, organize storage rooms, and assist with meal preparation. 

 Secure donated household items, assist with packing & loading, provide transportation.

Spend 3-4 hours hanging out with our Associates at our Community House.  This could be playing games, reading books, working on learning activities, etc.  

We celebrate the monthly birthdays for our associates by taking the group out to eat one time a month.  This cost approximately $200 to take our group of associates.  It would meet a BIG need to have a gift card to cover this cost each month.

Seeking volunteer tutors for our Hall Campus location to work with students studying English as a Second Language or preparing to take their GED or HiSET exams, learning basic skills in literacy and math, and English as a Second Language learners. Three hours opportunities available any day, Monday - Thursday, either 9 a.m. - noon or 5 - 8 p.m. Work will be mostly one-on-one or in small groups to help students receive specialized tutoring to help them grasp concepts keeping them behind the rest of their classmates and progressing towards a measurable skill gain or graduation.

The Shine afterschool program is in need of snacks to fuel our eager learners. Many children arrive hungry from school, and we strive to provide them with nutritious options.

Some suggested snack donations include pretzels, Bugels, cheese strings, granola bars, fresh fruit, fruit cups, and more.

We are ready to roll out our Senior Food Box Delivery Program! We need an additional 3-4 delivery drivers to "adopt" a route and deliver to selected households once a month. Must be able to lift up to 20lbs and be willing to Grow the Love with us!

Can be done publicly or virtually. We are in need of product to meet the growing need of the food in our five county service area. 

Neighborhoods, Businesses, Schools may all participate.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier is in need of volunteers to assist with after school program activities on an ongoing basis. Program activities range from homework help and mentoring to art, physical activity, and other exciting educational enrichments.

The Center of Hope Shelter is seeking your cooking skills. You can prepare and serve a meal for either breakfast or dinner to feed around 30-40 people. 

The Salvation Army Center of Hope is in need of a volunteer to help organize our food pantry. 

We are needing some volunteers to organize our clothes closet at the Center of Hope. 

By donating everyday items, you can make a difference in the lives of families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness who are working hard to regain and maintain sustainable independence.
