Who We Are

The Alliance for Literacy, a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt agency, was formed in 1989 by a merger between the Adult Education Center (AEC) advisory board and the Coalition for Literacy. The Alliance has a diverse board of directors consisting of fourteen members that represent our community in the areas of business, education, medical, legal, government, and service organizations. The Alliance serves as the advisory board to the Adult Education Center; Lanier Technical College is the fiscal agent for the State and Federally funded AEC and serves as the Literacy provider. The ALC provides free educational programs for adults 16 and older who have not graduated from high school or whose native language is not English. Services provided include literacy instruction, basic skills, GED preparation, English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes
